Use Scrum for complex work
I use Scrum when a team is solving a complex problem and needs a frequent loop for making work visible, inspecting an increment, and adapting the plan. Scrum is not a complete product strategy or a guarantee of speed—it sits under the broader Agile methodology mindset. It is a framework that creates useful accountabilities and feedback points.
I would begin with a product goal and a Product Backlog that reflects problems, outcomes, and learning—not merely a queue of disconnected tasks. The Product Owner makes ordering decisions, the Developers build a usable increment, and the Scrum Master helps the system improve.
Make the sprint a learning boundary
I would choose a Sprint Goal that gives the team a coherent purpose. During the sprint, I would collaborate on the plan and adapt the work while protecting the goal. A daily conversation should help the Developers inspect progress and adjust their approach, not provide a manager with a scripted report.
At the Sprint Review, I would inspect the increment with stakeholders and discuss what changed in the product context. At the Retrospective, I would choose a small improvement to try next.
Avoid framework theater
I would not measure Scrum by the number of meetings, points completed, or how closely a team follows a template. I would look for clearer decisions, usable increments, honest risk, and a team that can improve its way of working.
